Intro: History and traits of music for Film, TV, Videogames and Advertising - Introduction

Introduction.

Nowadays it might seem to all of us that music for media has always been there, since the beginning of the modern times (16th century). However, it is a new art form compared to painting or sculpture.

This blog entry will take the reader through a journey that will explore the beginnings of music for media; from film, TV or games, to advertising. It will explain the characteristics that make each of them an art form by themselves; theme songs, underscores, leitmotifs, the use of popular music, etc. all enclosed in what it’s known as extradiegetic, intradiegetic and diegetic music.

Is all media music the same? Could we say that film, TV, games and advertising music are all relatives, or should we say that they are siblings? Let’s find out!
